Provides judo teaching and coaching; the majority as extra/co- curricula sports clubs in state & private schools. Additional training is available outside set sessions. We also run the coaching of the student club at the University of Bath. Plus a recreational session there for adults on a Tuesday (see the page linked). We hope this site will give parents, schools & perhaps, students a better insight of Gleeson Judo. I hope you enjoy it! Any comments can be sent via the contact us page.  Please also see  Ts&Cs among other things on download page, thank you. FG. 29.6.24

an overview

So briefly, qualifications encompass; 5th Dan (black belt) judo, level 2 coach, QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), M.A. Fine Art, PGCE (Post Grad. Cert. of Ed), BA(Hons) Fine Art.

I have run Gleeson Judo since 2008, mostly in Primary schools in and around Bath but also further afield, London, Sherborne & Bristol.

Teaching judo to Prep & senior private schools as well as students from the Uni. of Bath, I have enabled competition success from these students at IAPS, HMC & BUCS respectively. We've always gone away with more medals than not.

I trained in Japan 1992-2001. Got my 1st, 2nd & 3rd dan from the Kodokan International Judo Institute, Tokyo (the founding institution). Trained there, Nippon Taiku Daigaku, Wasada Uni, & other dojos around the city. Also, of course having trained in UK before traveling to Japan.

I competed at Kodokan comps, and 'Friendly' Internationals in Osaka.

I taught a complete range of ages in Japan; from 'pre-school' to HE, FE, High Schools and conversation schools. Community classes for the retired as well! Mostly English but also art. I designed and delivered courses on art appreciation at an FE college In addition I worked with students preparing for overseas degrees in art, at Vantan Design Institute.

Exhibitions have been held in Tokyo, London, New York, Miami, Barcelona, Bath, to name the bigger ones. Both group and single exhibitions. Patrons are spread across the world.   FG. 2.10.23.

Kano, & judo history

The man who started it all, this is an extract from one of my father's books, he was much better read than I, and it details Kano's early life, the starting of judo, Kano's progression in Japanese politics....
